GOLF ETIQUETTE
All beginners and most seasoned golfers concentrate on improving their game by working on pefecting the swing and putt. But few will bother to understand and practise golf etiquette beyond letting the player, who has scored PAR or better for the previous hole, have the honour to Tee-off and letting the player, whose ball on the Green is furthest from the Hole, putt first. Golf etiquette is more than just these two basic manners.
Whether it is twoballs or foursome, we should observe the following:
AT THE TEE-BOX
No one should Tee-off before the front flight has delivered their second shots and moved off
Do not talk or whisper while a player is executing the Tee-shot
Always look out for the playing partner's ball but position yourself out of his sight
ON THE FAIRWAY
Help to look for your partner's ball first if it is not on the fairway
Wait for front flight to clear before delivering next shot
Do not stand in front of playing partner when he is taking his shot
Always look out for playing partners' balls
ON THE GREEN
Be very careful not to step on anyone's lie of ball
The player whose ball is nearest to the Pin should mark his ball and then remove the Pin
Make doubly sure to place the Pin where it will not be hit by any ball when rolling along the line of putt
The first player to hole out should pick up the Pin and replace it after the last player hole out
No players should walk away until everyone has putted
HAPPY GOLFING
If everyone observes these etiquettes, golfing will be much fun. Very often, one may not be aware that his behaviour on the golf course is disturbing. He may not even realise that the playing partners are feeling upset about his poor etiquette as no one would point it out to him. It may also affect the mood and therefore performance of the other players. Eventually, you would lose kakis.
